9 Meltwater Alternatives I Compared in 2026 (Exit Terms)

Of the 17 reviews on Meltwater's Trustpilot page, 8 describe a renewal or contract problem (Trustpilot, checked Oct 16, 2026).

If your Meltwater renewal is coming up, that number is about you. Those 8 reviewers found the problem in the contract terms, after they had signed.

You can't see a Meltwater price before a sales call. Meltwater's own terms set most agreements at 12 months minimum, and any change to your plan goes case by case.

  • One reviewer missed a 60-day cancellation window, then saw the bill move from Canadian to US dollars, a jump of 25% or more (Trustpilot, Jun 6, 2024).

  • Another found the contract renews unless you cancel 3 months before it ends (Trustpilot, May 7, 2024).

My view: check how you leave a tool before you check its features, because the contract terms are what those 8 reviewers paid for.

This post covers 9 tools, each price as I checked it on Oct 16, 2026, what users like and dislike about each, and who should pick which one.

TL;DR: 9 Meltwater Alternatives and Who Each One Fits#

  1. CommunityTracker.ai: for teams that want buyer and brand threads on Reddit, LinkedIn, Hacker News and GitHub, with a price you can see and no contract. Free, then $39 a month.

  2. Brand24: for PR and marketing teams that want news, social, podcast and review monitoring on a self-serve plan. $249 a month billed monthly, or $199 a month billed annually.

  3. Mentionlytics: for small PR teams that want news and social monitoring with monthly billing. $56 a month billed monthly, or $49 a month billed yearly on the current Basic offer.

  4. Awario: for buyers whose Meltwater searches were brand names and Boolean strings. $49 a month billed monthly, or $29 a month billed annually.

  5. YouScan: for brands that need logos found in images and spoken mentions in video. $499 a month billed annually.

  6. Sprout Social: for social teams that publish, answer and report in one place and want listening as an add-on. From $199 per seat a month billed annually.

  7. Agorapulse: for social teams on a budget that want a free plan and monthly billing. $99 per user a month billed monthly, or $79 billed annually.

  8. Talkwalker: for global brands that need Meltwater-scale media coverage and accept a quote. Quote only.

  9. Brandwatch: for research teams that run consumer research and accept a quote. Quote only.

Free floor: if all you need is an email when a news site names you, Google Alerts costs nothing. It won't replace a dashboard or a report.

Why Teams Leave Meltwater#

Source: Meltwater on Trustpilot, 1.7 from 17 reviews, captured Oct 16, 2026

I think the product is the smaller part of the problem. Julie Collins wrote on Trustpilot that Meltwater's listening tool "is comparable to other tools", and then spent the rest of her review on the contract (Trustpilot, Aug 10, 2023).

The complaints that repeat across 2021 to 2025 fall into three groups:

  • Renewals you didn't expect. Andrus Kiisküla: "Their renewal practice is built around you not paying attention to the contract. No prior notifications or anything" (Trustpilot, Mar 12, 2025). Helen Kiddle found a "rolling contract with 60 days notice" (Trustpilot, Jun 9, 2022).

  • Prices you can't predict. Janet called it a "Good product but tricky pricing" (Trustpilot, Mar 14, 2023). Martin M. wrote that "everything is an add-on and it is not always easy to determine what you get for the price" (Software Advice, Sep 2018).

  • Setup that eats the first months. Stark Himmel's team started using the tool 60 days after the contract start date (Trustpilot, Aug 2, 2024).

On Software Advice, Meltwater scores 4.0 from 96 reviews, with value for money at 3.4, below ease of use (4), functionality (4) and support (3.7) (checked Oct 16, 2026). Users there rate the data well and the price less well. That split tells you what to fix when you switch: keep the coverage you use, and drop the contract you can't read.

I'd push back on the usual advice here. Most switch guides tell you to list the features you use and find a match that costs less. I'd start with your contract end date and notice period, because a cheaper tool bought in the wrong month still leaves you paying Meltwater for a year.

How I Evaluated These Meltwater Alternatives#

I ranked 9 tools on four questions:

  • Results: what each tool finds that a Meltwater buyer needs, such as news, social posts, podcasts, community threads or images.

  • Features: alerts, Boolean, reports, sentiment and seats.

  • Pricing: whether you can see the price, how it bills, and how you leave. I checked every pricing page on Oct 16, 2026.

  • Problem solved: which Meltwater complaint the tool removes.

When two tools tie, the one with a published price and monthly billing ranks higher. That rule is why Talkwalker and Brandwatch sit at #8 and #9: both match Meltwater's coverage, and both sell through a quote and a contract, which repeats the problem that sent you here.

For user reviews, I read Trustpilot, Software Advice, Capterra UK and TrustRadius, and I say which complaints I believe and why. I compared plans, terms and reviews. I didn't run a lab test.

1. CommunityTracker.ai#

CommunityTracker.ai is my #1 because it fixes the part of the Meltwater problem you can fix today: you see the price, you pay by the month, and you leave when you want. It finds the Reddit, LinkedIn, Hacker News and GitHub threads where people ask for a tool like yours or complain about one. It does not replace Meltwater's news and broadcast monitoring, and you should know that before you move.

Source: CommunityTracker.ai homepage, captured Oct 16, 2026

Features#

CommunityTracker earns its rank on threads, not on press clips.

  • Communities: Reddit on Free; Reddit, LinkedIn, Hacker News and GitHub on Starter; all communities on Pro. You catch the buyer question Meltwater's news feed never sees.

  • AI filtering and scoring (Pro): sorts threads by intent, so you read the 10 that matter instead of 300 keyword hits.

  • Warm emails: up to 100 a month on Starter and unlimited on Pro, which turns a thread into a contact.

  • Response Generator: drafts a reply to a thread, so the person who finds it can answer it.

  • Share of Voice (Pro) and Share of Voice Exporter (Advanced): your share of community threads against rivals, which a PR lead can put in a monthly report.

  • AI Visibility (Advanced): tracks how AI assistants talk about your brand.

Pricing#

I'd start on Free, because a month on one keyword tells you more than a demo. Every paid plan bills monthly with no long-term contract. You can cancel at any time, and a free trial is available.

Source: CommunityTracker.ai pricing page, captured Oct 16, 2026

  • Free ($0): 1 keyword, Reddit, daily alerts, basic analytics.

  • Starter ($39/month): 4 keywords, Reddit, LinkedIn, Hacker News and GitHub, 5,000 mentions, daily alerts, 100 warm emails a month.

  • Pro ($99/month): 10 keywords, all communities, unlimited mentions, AI filtering and scoring, daily Slack alerts, Share of Voice.

  • Advanced ($199/month, through sales): 20 keywords, Share of Voice Exporter, AI Visibility.

Prices checked Oct 16, 2026. See the pricing page.

Pros#

  • You can leave any month. That removes the problem 8 Meltwater reviewers wrote about.

  • The price is public. You budget without a sales call.

  • Threads come with intent scores on Pro. You spend your time on buyers, not on keyword noise.

  • Free plan. You test on your own brand name before you pay.

Cons#

Ranked by what they cost you:

  1. No news, print or broadcast coverage. If your Meltwater report counts press pickups, you still need a second tool for that.

  2. Daily alerts, not real time. A crisis thread at 9 a.m. waits until the next digest.

  3. No Facebook, Instagram or TikTok listening.

  4. No user reviews to read. Trustpilot, G2, Capterra, Software Advice and TrustRadius show 0 reviews (Oct 16, 2026), so you judge it on the free plan instead of on other buyers.

User reviews#

CommunityTracker has 0 reviews on the five review sites I checked (con 4 above). A week on the free plan with one competitor name gives you the same evidence a review would.

Summary#

My pick for the first switch, because it is the one tool here you can try, pay for and cancel without talking to anyone.

  • Pick it if your team sells to people who ask for tools on Reddit, LinkedIn or Hacker News, and you want a price and exit you can read today.

  • Skip it if your job is press coverage reports, because CommunityTracker doesn't monitor news sites, print or broadcast.

2. Brand24#

Brand24 replaces a Meltwater media plus social setup on a self-serve plan. It covers news, social, podcasts and review sites, and you can buy it by the month with a card.

Source: Brand24 homepage, captured Oct 16, 2026

Features#

Brand24 sits at #2 because it keeps most of what a PR team uses in Meltwater and drops the sales cycle.

  • Sources: news sites, social networks (X, TikTok, Reddit and more), podcasts and review sites. You keep press and social in one feed.

  • Update speed by plan: every 12 hours on Individual, every hour on Team, real time on Pro and above. Buy Pro if a crisis can't wait an hour.

  • Unlimited users from Team up. Seats never enter your math past the first plan.

  • AI Brand Assistant, AI Insights and AI Topics (Pro and up): summaries you can send to a manager.

  • Slack integration: one reviewer calls it "the most important thing".

Pricing#

I think Brand24's annual price is the right buy only after one monthly cycle, because a month tells you whether your mention volume fits the cap.

Source: Brand24 pricing page, annual billing, captured Oct 16, 2026

Source: Brand24 pricing page, monthly billing, captured Oct 16, 2026

  • Individual: $249/month billed monthly, or $199/month billed annually. 3 keywords, 2,000 mentions a month, 1 user.

  • Team: $349/month or $299/month annually. 7 keywords, 10,000 mentions, unlimited users.

  • Pro: $499/month or $399/month annually. 12 keywords, 40,000 mentions, real-time updates.

  • Business: $699/month or $599/month annually. 25 keywords, 100,000 mentions.

  • Enterprise: from $1,499/month billed annually.

  • Free trial: yes.

Prices checked Oct 16, 2026. Our Brand24 review covers each plan.

Pros#

  • Self-serve with monthly billing. You can leave after a month.

  • News plus social in one feed. You replace both halves of a Meltwater media and social plan.

  • Unlimited users from Team. A PR team of 6 pays the same as a team of 2.

  • Users report savings after a switch. Taby F. wrote that switching "saved us a ton of money".

Cons#

  1. Mention caps. 2,000 a month on Individual runs out for a brand with steady press.

  2. Some US news sites missing. Taby F. wrote that EU servers block some US news sites, which cost her "a couple media mentions".

  3. Noise on broad keywords. Several users ask for better filters.

  4. No print or broadcast. Meltwater users who track TV and radio need another source.

What users like#

Software Advice shows Brand24 at 4.7 from 256 reviews (checked Oct 16, 2026). Most reviews there are incentivized, so I weigh the specific ones over the star counts.

  • Taby F. (Software Advice, Jul 2024): "we were using a different product that we weren't happy with and switching saved us a ton of money."

  • Izabela S. (Software Advice, Oct 2025) values "discovering untagged mentions I wouldn't see otherwise" and the Storm Reports.

  • Ens C. (Software Advice, Jul 2024): "the most important thing is Slack integration."

  • Khasiba A. (Software Advice, Oct 2025) names tracking across "news sites, social media (especially X/Twitter and Reddit)".

  • Luis S. (Software Advice, Aug 2024): "the price is fair".

  • Taylor S. (Software Advice, Oct 2025, organic) praises "the number of resources the platform pulled from".

What users dislike#

  • Taby F. (Software Advice, Jul 2024): "Servers are in the EU so some news sites in the US are blocked there."

  • Michał A. (Software Advice, Jul 2025): "Occasionally, the tool captures irrelevant or low-quality mentions".

  • Marta Ż. (Software Advice, Jul 2025): "The filter sometimes lets incorrect content through".

  • Roberto L. (Software Advice, Jan 2025): "The cost can be a bit high for smaller companies".

  • Khasiba A. (Software Advice, Oct 2025): sentiment in non-English languages "sometimes requires manual correction."

  • Raul D. (Software Advice, Aug 2024): "Doesn't cover everything, sometimes is not real time."

The noise complaints carry the most weight for me, because they repeat from 2024 to 2025 across different reviewers. For a Meltwater buyer, the US news gap counts for more, and only one reviewer raises it, so test your top 10 outlets in the trial.

Read the reviews: Software Advice.

Summary#

My pick for a PR team that wants to keep news and social together and pay by the month.

  • Pick it if you want press, social and podcast mentions in one feed and a plan you can cancel.

  • Skip it if you count TV and radio pickups or your brand produces more than 40,000 mentions a month on a Pro budget.

3. Mentionlytics#

Mentionlytics gives a small PR team leaving Meltwater news monitoring under $100 a month. It covers news and social, bills monthly or yearly, and one reviewer puts it at a third of Meltwater's price.

Source: Mentionlytics homepage, captured Oct 16, 2026

Features#

Mentionlytics sits at #3 because it gives a small team Meltwater's core job at a price you can read, and it trails Brand24 on speed complaints.

  • Sources: news, blogs, social networks and review sites.

  • Share of voice against competitors: users say they use it to prove marketing results to leadership.

  • Boolean, alerts and reports: the basics a Meltwater user expects.

  • Image recognition on Business: a feature Meltwater buyers often pay extra for elsewhere.

Pricing#

I'd pay monthly for the first two months, because reviewers say the mention limits run out, and you want to see that before you commit for a year.

Source: Mentionlytics pricing page, yearly billing, captured Oct 16, 2026

Source: Mentionlytics pricing page, monthly billing, captured Oct 16, 2026

  • Basic: $56/month billed monthly (was $66), or $49/month billed yearly (was $58), both on the current offer. 5,000 mentions a month, 2 users.

  • Essential: $160/month or $141/month yearly. 15,000 mentions, 10 users.

  • Advanced: $283/month or $249/month yearly. 50,000 mentions.

  • Pro: $473/month or $416/month yearly. 100,000 mentions.

  • Business: $624/month billed yearly. 200,000+ mentions.

  • Custom: from $1,083/month billed yearly.

Prices checked Oct 16, 2026, on the monthly and yearly toggles. See our Mentionlytics review.

Pros#

  • Monthly billing on every listed plan up to Pro. You can walk away.

  • A third of Meltwater's price, in one reviewer's account.

  • Share of voice included. You keep the competitor chart your Meltwater report had.

  • Support users call fast.

Cons#

  1. Low mention limits. Basic's 5,000 a month runs out for a brand in the news.

  2. Irrelevant matches. Several reviewers clean results by hand.

  3. Slow on large feeds.

  4. Add-ons and tiers. One reviewer found too many.

What users like#

  • Findahobby (Trustpilot, Apr 21, 2026) put Mentionlytics at one third of Meltwater's price (review).

  • Eleftherios Xenarios (Trustpilot, Apr 21, 2026) had issues resolved within a day and found enterprise tools out of budget (review).

  • Melis C. (Software Advice, Jul 2024) uses share of voice to prove marketing to leadership.

  • Andrea (Capterra UK, Mar 22, 2023) says support is "always a call away" (Capterra UK).

  • John Dalloway (Trustpilot, Feb 21, 2024) names setup and pricing (review).

  • Geeti (Capterra UK, Mar 9, 2023) likes multiple sources in one place.

What users dislike#

  • Melis C. (Software Advice, Jul 2024): irrelevant matches, and no Line or WeChat.

  • Daniel K. (Software Advice, Feb 2023): slow, with low mention limits.

  • Andrea (Capterra UK, Mar 22, 2023): runs out of mentions and repeats results.

  • Stathis K. (Software Advice, Nov 2022): lags on large feeds.

  • Jobst E. (Software Advice, Feb 2023): too many add-ons and tiers.

  • Katie P. (Software Advice, Feb 2023): it takes effort to collect accurate data.

The Findahobby review is the one I trust here. The same handle left a Talkwalker review the same day about a 25% price increase and a move to "another tool". That reads like a buyer who switched for price and wrote both reviews. The speed complaints date from 2022 and 2023, so test speed on your own feed rather than trust or dismiss them.

Read the reviews: Software Advice.

Summary#

For a PR team of 1 or 2 people with under $100 a month, this is where I'd start.

  • Pick it if you want news and social mentions, a share of voice chart and monthly billing.

  • Skip it if your brand produces more than 15,000 mentions a month and your budget stops at Essential.

4. Awario#

Awario sells mention volume: 30,000 a month for $29 billed annually. You pay for that in Boolean you write and maintain. If your Meltwater searches were brand names and a few exclusions, it costs the least of the paid tools here.

Source: Awario homepage, captured Oct 16, 2026

Features#

Awario sits at #4 because its price beats every tool above it, and its refund complaints keep it below them.

  • Boolean search on every plan. You can copy your Meltwater queries across.

  • Sources: news, blogs, the web and social networks.

  • Unlimited keywords per topic.

  • White-label PDF reports and data export, which an agency needs.

  • API and account manager on the plans that include them.

Pricing#

I'd buy Starter monthly first. Three Trustpilot reviewers say Awario refused them a refund, so treat an annual payment as spent.

Source: Awario pricing page, yearly billing, captured Oct 16, 2026

Source: Awario pricing page, monthly billing, captured Oct 16, 2026

  • Starter: $49/month billed monthly, or $29/month billed annually. 3 topics, 30,000 new mentions a month, 5,000 stored per topic, 1 team member.

  • Pro: $149/month or $89/month annually. 15 topics, 300,000 mentions, 15,000 stored per topic, 10 team members.

  • Enterprise: $399/month or $249/month annually. 100 topics, 1,000,000 mentions, unlimited team members.

  • Trial: access to Starter with 3 alerts and up to 30,000 mentions.

Prices checked Oct 16, 2026. See our Awario review and Awario alternatives.

Pros#

  • 30,000 mentions for $29 a month billed annually. Brand24 Individual gives you 2,000 for $199.

  • Monthly billing. You can test it on your real brand volume.

  • Boolean on Starter. You don't pay extra to write precise queries.

  • Users praise support. Several December 2025 reviews name account managers.

Cons#

  1. No refunds. Three reviewers from 2020 and 2021 were refused one, and a 2025 reviewer got £348 back only after a complaint.

  2. Facebook and Instagram gaps, in a 2020 review, and a 2025 reply from Awario saying it is working on more platforms.

  3. 5,000 stored mentions per topic on Starter. A busy brand rotates older mentions out within weeks.

  4. 1 team member on Starter.

What users like#

Awario has 4.2 from 18 reviews on Trustpilot (checked Oct 16, 2026).

  • Manuel Echanove (Trustpilot, Dec 17, 2025) names "excellent value for money".

  • Benoît E. (Trustpilot, Dec 27, 2025) replaced manual hashtag searches and "a messy spreadsheet".

  • Ross (Trustpilot, Dec 15, 2025) praises help "creating alerts to ensure all relevant social media mentions would be captured".

  • Harry Anderson (Trustpilot, Dec 14, 2025) runs reports in multiple languages for an agency.

  • Kevin Cross (Trustpilot, Jan 7, 2026) says support tweaks his keywords on request.

  • Thomas Pedersen (Trustpilot, Dec 17, 2025) has used it "for years".

What users dislike#

  • Tom Pannett (Trustpilot, Mar 27, 2025, edited Dec 2025): "This company took £348 charge for subscription without giving advance notice". His edit adds: "they repaid money" (review).

  • Tobi (Trustpilot, Jun 20, 2021): a saved card was charged $1,345 and the refund was refused.

  • Laura (Trustpilot, Dec 10, 2020): "This listening tool isn't able to monitor mentions on Facebook or Instagram." (review)

  • Emil Forsén (Trustpilot, May 12, 2020): the 150k mention quota "gets gobbled up by related keywords", which makes the feed "INCREDIBLY MUDDY", and Awario doesn't offer refunds (review).

  • Valeriia (Trustpilot, Dec 2025): "Haven't faced ruder support yet."

I give the December 2025 cluster of 5-star reviews less weight, because most of them were posted between Dec 13 and Dec 27, 2025. The refund complaints hold up for me, because they run from 2020 to 2025 and Awario's replies point to its terms instead of offering money back. Emil's feature complaint dates from 2020, so I'd check the competitor limit on a trial before I held it against Awario today.

Read the reviews: Trustpilot.

Summary#

Buy it for a budget under $50 a month, and cancel before the renewal if it doesn't fit.

  • Pick it if your Meltwater queries were brand names plus Boolean exclusions and you want monthly billing.

  • Skip it if you need Facebook and Instagram mentions or a refund window.

5. YouScan#

YouScan is the tool to pick when your brand shows up in pictures and videos more than in headlines. It reads logos in images and spoken mentions in video, which Meltwater sells as part of a quote.

Source: YouScan homepage, captured Oct 16, 2026

Features#

YouScan sits at #5 because its image tools solve a problem no tool above it solves, and its terms repeat the Meltwater contract problem.

  • Visual Insights: finds logos, objects and scenes in images. A sponsor can count logo views at an event.

  • Audio Monitoring: finds spoken mentions in TikTok and YouTube captions.

  • Sources: X, TikTok, YouTube, Reddit, Telegram, Facebook pages, Instagram, blogs, forums, news and review platforms.

  • Unlimited users on every plan.

  • Insights Copilot: an AI agent that answers questions about your topics, about 10 questions a month on Starter.

Pricing#

I'd count your topics before you talk to YouScan, because the topic limit decides your plan and the terms don't let you move down.

Source: YouScan pricing page, captured Oct 16, 2026

  • Starter 3: $499/month billed annually. 3 topics, 15,000 mentions a month, unlimited users.

  • Listen, Analyze, Enterprise: quote only, from 5 topics.

  • Paid modules: Visual Data Analysis, Audience Insights, Audio Monitoring and the API, with no public price.

  • Terms: fees are non-refundable, and the agreement renews for the same term after notice.

Prices checked Oct 16, 2026. See our YouScan review.

Pros#

  • Logo detection in images. No other self-serve price here includes it.

  • TikTok and audio coverage. You hear the mentions other tools only read.

  • Unlimited users.

  • Support users name by first name.

Cons#

  1. Annual billing, non-refundable, renews by notice. That is the Meltwater exit problem at a lower price.

  2. 3 topics on Starter. A brand, 2 rivals and a campaign needs a quote.

  3. The visual tools you came for are paid modules.

  4. Slow historical collection.

What users like#

  • Sage S. (Software Advice, Sep 2025): "The biggest game-changer for us has been the logo recognition feature."

  • Jack F. (Software Advice, May 2026): "We originally subscribed to YouScan for its TikTok data, this is where it helps us the most".

  • Cesar C. (Software Advice, Jul 2026): "as good as if not better than most enterprise listening tools and their pricing is even better".

  • Ann S. (Software Advice, Apr 2026): "The support and customer service is top-notch".

  • Lubica J. (Software Advice, Mar 2026): "Insights Copilot helps team to get to insights faster".

  • Erik S. (Software Advice, Apr 2026): "the rule-based tagging system makes it easy to clean up data."

What users dislike#

  • Valdir U. (Software Advice, Jun 2026): "The number of queries (in all plans) is very limited".

  • Francisco M. (Software Advice, May 2026), on Starter: "It used to hace 10.000 and suddenly they changed it to 5.000."

  • Maggie W. (Software Advice, May 2026) wants "an understanding of which features need to be add-ons and topics".

  • Dana H. (Software Advice, Aug 2025): "Need to be very strong at Boolean to set up topics."

  • Cristian G. (Software Advice, Apr 2025): "sometimes it tracks a lot of garbage".

  • Alexandre Gonçalves (Trustpilot, Feb 15, 2024): "Our company regretted $400 spent" (review).

The topic and mention cap complaints convince me, because they come from 2025 and 2026 and match the current terms. The $400 complaint is one review from 2024, so I give it little weight.

Read the reviews: Software Advice.

Summary#

Buy it for image and video listening, after you've read the renewal clause.

  • Pick it if your brand appears in photos, sponsorships or TikTok videos and you track 3 topics or fewer.

  • Skip it if leaving Meltwater was about the contract, because YouScan bills annually with no refunds.

6. Sprout Social#

Sprout Social replaces the social half of Meltwater, not the media half. If your team used Meltwater mostly to publish, answer and report on social, Sprout does that job, and its own reviewers warn you about the same renewals.

Source: Sprout Social homepage, captured Oct 16, 2026

Features#

Sprout sits at #6 because it fits a social team well and a PR team poorly.

  • Smart Inbox: every network's messages and comments in one place, so nobody signs into each network.

  • Approvals: drafts, notes and sign-off inside the tool, which an agency needs.

  • Reports: dashboards and PDF reports for clients and managers.

  • Listening and Premium Analytics: add-ons on Standard and up.

Pricing#

I'd price Sprout per person before anything else, because every seat adds the full plan price.

Source: Sprout Social pricing page, captured Oct 16, 2026

  • Standard: $199 per seat/month, billed annually.

  • Professional: $299 per seat/month, billed annually.

  • Advanced: $399 per seat/month, billed annually.

  • Enterprise: quote.

  • Listening: add-on, priced separately.

  • Free trial: yes, no card required.

Prices checked Oct 16, 2026. See our Sprout Social review.

Pros#

  • One inbox for every network.

  • Approvals per post.

  • Client reports.

  • Long-time users stay. One reviewer has used it at every company since 2013.

Cons#

  1. Auto-renewing annual contracts. Six Trustpilot reviewers describe renewal or notice problems from 2025 and 2026.

  2. Per-seat pricing. One reviewer paid $9,576 extra for 2 added users.

  3. No news monitoring.

  4. Listening costs extra.

  • Zach (Capterra UK, Feb 22, 2026) manages a dozen handles and sub-brands (Capterra UK).

  • Heather Mills (TrustRadius, Jun 26, 2026) runs 55+ accounts and 1,500 posts a month (review).

  • Christian Estrellado (TrustRadius, Apr 7, 2026) sends dashboards and PDF reports to clients (review).

  • Terry E. (Software Advice, Aug 2023): the Smart Inbox saves signing into each network.

  • Greg A. (Software Advice, Oct 2022): draft, review and approval inside the tool.

  • Bridgett Colling (Trustpilot, Apr 4, 2025) has used Sprout at every company since 2013 (review).

What users dislike#

  • Bryce DeCora (Trustpilot, Apr 22, 2026): an auto-renewed annual contract (review).

  • MAsencio (Trustpilot, Feb 28, 2026): $9,576 extra for 2 added users (review).

  • Diego (Trustpilot, Aug 5, 2026): cancelled 3 times by email and still renewed (review).

  • Chris (Trustpilot, Sep 30, 2026): a monthly plan turned out to be an annual contract (review).

  • shawn owens (Trustpilot, Jan 31, 2026): exactly 30 days notice, no proration (review).

  • Jeb B. (Software Advice, Jan 2025): priced out.

The renewal complaints hold, because they come from 2025 and 2026 and from different buyers with the same story. Sprout still ranks above Agorapulse because its reports and inbox do more for a social team, and the renewal risk is what you pay for that.

Read the reviews: Trustpilot, Software Advice.

Summary#

My pick for a social team that wants one inbox and client reports, and will read the renewal date.

  • Pick it if your Meltwater use was social publishing and reporting and one or two people need seats.

  • Skip it if you need news monitoring or you left Meltwater over a renewal, because Sprout reviewers report the same.

7. Agorapulse#

Agorapulse is the cheaper, easier exit for a social team. It has a free plan, monthly billing, and Mention's former listening product through sales.

Source: Agorapulse homepage, captured Oct 16, 2026

Features#

Agorapulse sits at #7 because its terms beat Sprout's, and it covers less of Meltwater's job than anything above it.

  • Unified inbox: users name it as the reason they buy.

  • Client approvals: a shared calendar and sign-off.

  • ROI reports: Google Analytics links tie posts to traffic.

  • Listening: the former Mention product, sold through sales.

Pricing#

I'd start on the free plan and pay monthly, because Agorapulse's own users report plan changes that double the bill.

Source: Agorapulse pricing page, annual billing, captured Oct 16, 2026

Source: Agorapulse pricing page, monthly billing, captured Oct 16, 2026

  • Standard: $99 per user/month billed monthly, or $79 billed annually.

  • Professional: $149 per user/month billed monthly, or $119 billed annually.

  • Advanced: $199 per user/month billed monthly, or $149 billed annually.

  • Custom: quote.

  • Free plan: yes, with no automatic charges.

Prices checked Oct 16, 2026, on the monthly and annual toggles. See our Agorapulse review and Mention alternatives.

Pros#

  • Free plan and monthly billing. You can leave.

  • One inbox per brand.

  • Client approvals.

  • Support: most questions get an answer in under an hour.

Cons#

  1. Per-user pricing. A team of 5 on Professional pays $745 a month billed monthly.

  2. Listening goes through sales. You're back to a quote for the Meltwater part.

  3. Posting and upload failures in 2026 reviews.

  4. No news monitoring.

What users like#

  • Richard Tubb (Trustpilot, Nov 21, 2025): "Inbox Zero" for social (review).

  • Leslie Samuel (Trustpilot, Nov 21, 2025): the unified inbox is "the number one reason" (review).

  • Lincoln (Capterra UK, Jan 1, 2026): ROI reviews for stakeholders (Capterra UK).

  • Bruce M. (Software Advice, Mar 2022): other tools got more expensive at 3 or 4 users.

  • Jean (Trustpilot, Oct 7, 2023): moved from Hootsuite for the YouTube and TikTok inbox (review).

  • Stephanie (Trustpilot, Nov 26, 2025): the Google Analytics link shows ROI (review).

What users dislike#

  • Social Admin (Trustpilot, Jan 30, 2026): tokens and posts fail, uploads stick at 99%, a 6-hour support wait (review).

  • David (Trustpilot, Jun 26, 2024): paid for a year, then needed the next tier for reply tagging (review).

  • Agent Upgrade (Trustpilot, Oct 1, 2025): charges continued after a written stop request (review).

  • AgencyMan (Trustpilot, Jul 9, 2025): a plan change would double monthly fees (review).

  • Kamal Fayad (Trustpilot, Oct 1, 2023): refund refused (review).

  • Adam (Capterra UK, Sep 30, 2025): a reporting bug persisted for months.

The November 2025 praise arrived in one week, so I weigh it less. I believe the billing complaints from 2025, because two separate buyers describe charges after a stop request or a plan change.

Read the reviews: Trustpilot.

Summary#

My pick for a social team that wants to leave without a contract and doesn't need news monitoring.

  • Pick it if you need an inbox, approvals and reports for under $100 a user, billed monthly.

  • Skip it if listening is the reason you bought Meltwater, because Agorapulse sells it through a quote.

8. Talkwalker#

Talkwalker matches Meltwater's media and social coverage, and you buy it the way you bought Meltwater: a demo, a quote and a contract. Hootsuite, which owns Talkwalker, renamed it Lumen by Talkwalker in June 2026 (checked Oct 16, 2026), and the plans and features stay the same.

Source: Talkwalker homepage, captured Oct 16, 2026

Features#

Talkwalker earns its spot on coverage and loses rank on how you buy it.

  • Social listening and media monitoring on every plan, with non-sampled results.

  • Unlimited users on every plan.

  • Wisdom: peak detection, forecasting and AI summaries.

  • LLM Insights: how AI assistants talk about your brand.

  • Core, Analyze, Business: each step adds result volume (2x, then 6x) and topics.

Pricing#

I can't tell you what Talkwalker costs, and neither can its buyers until a sales call.

Source: Talkwalker pricing page, captured Oct 16, 2026

  • Core, Analyze and Business: quote only.

  • Every plan: unlimited users, onboarding and regional support.

  • Price changes: one Trustpilot reviewer reports a 25% increase at renewal in April 2026.

Checked Oct 16, 2026. Our Talkwalker review walks through each plan and what you get before the sales call.

Pros#

  • Coverage close to Meltwater's. You keep most of your sources in a switch.

  • Unlimited users.

  • Customization, once you know Boolean.

Cons#

  1. Quote only. You repeat Meltwater's buying process.

  2. Price increases at renewal.

  3. A learning curve tied to Boolean and training.

  4. Report customization limits.

What users like#

Software Advice shows Talkwalker at 4.4 from 24 reviews (checked Oct 16, 2026). Most date from 2018 to 2022, so I read them as a view of the product, not its current price.

  • Karan R. (Software Advice, Feb 2025, organic): "the conversations analytic that the tool provides is outstanding."

  • Maria B. (Software Advice, Jul 2019): "Once you've had a proper demo/training on this tool, honestly the sky is the limit".

  • Verified reviewer (Software Advice, Dec 2018): alerts give "realtime updates on our name in the news".

  • Verified reviewer (Software Advice, Jul 2022): "granular analysis down to region, language, device".

  • Mustafa F. (Software Advice, Mar 2022): reports "almost got ready" for an election project.

  • Jordan D. (Software Advice, Mar 2020, organic): "the learning curve isn't very steep."

What users dislike#

  • Findahobby (Trustpilot, Apr 21, 2026): "now they ask us for a 25% price increase."

  • Karan R. (Software Advice, Feb 2025): "The pricing module, seems expensive."

  • Ryan S (Trustpilot, Apr 22, 2026): too many alerts and no way to reach support outside the account.

  • Vinora C. (Software Advice, Nov 2019): "Topic set-up is kind of tricky. It needs boolean knowledge."

  • namitha b. (Software Advice, Nov 2019): "Reports can not be customised as desired."

  • Enes Y. (Software Advice, Jun 2022): "It's a very expensive app."

Price is the complaint that runs from 2018 to 2026. The 2026 Trustpilot review about a 25% increase is the one that matters to a Meltwater buyer.

Read the reviews: Software Advice, Trustpilot.

Summary#

Pick it only if coverage outranks contract terms for you.

  • Pick it if you need Meltwater-level global media and social coverage and your legal team reads every renewal clause.

  • Skip it if you're leaving Meltwater over the contract or a price you couldn't predict.

9. Brandwatch#

Brandwatch gives research teams NLP query help, dashboard segments and benchmarks, and it carries the same contract risk you're trying to escape. I rank it last for a Meltwater buyer for that reason.

Source: Brandwatch homepage, captured Oct 16, 2026

Features#

Brandwatch earns a place for depth and sits last on terms.

  • Consumer research: query writing with NLP help and segmentation in dashboards.

  • Benchmarks: competitor comparison that users find easy to read.

  • Publishing: the former Falcon.io tools for scheduling.

  • Customization: flexible across use cases, at the cost of complexity.

Pricing#

Brandwatch sells every plan through a quote. One Trustpilot reviewer paid $12,000 a year for 3 users on a 2-year deal.

Source: Brandwatch pricing page, captured Oct 16, 2026

  • All plans: quote only.

  • Reported price: $12,000 a year, 3 users, 2 years (Trustpilot, Dec 30, 2025).

Checked Oct 16, 2026. See our Brandwatch review and Brandwatch alternatives.

Pros#

  • Social research tools that users praise in 2026 reviews.

  • Segmentation in dashboards.

  • Benchmarks for competitor work.

Cons#

  1. Auto-renewals that buyers couldn't cancel.

  2. Quote only.

  3. Features sold one by one.

  4. Complexity.

What users like#

Software Advice shows 4.2 from 255 reviews (including Falcon.io reviews), and Trustpilot shows 2.0 from 21 (checked Oct 16, 2026).

  • Amber N. (Software Advice, Apr 2026): "easy to apply segmentations in dashboards".

  • Flynn M. (Software Advice, Apr 2026): "the depth and flexibility of its social listening capabilities."

  • Ruth T. (Software Advice, May 2026): "I enjoyed the benchmark function".

  • Saffron V. (Software Advice, Jul 2021): "The query writing is made super easy with their NLP assistance."

  • Quinlyn K. (Software Advice, Apr 2026): "a lot of customization options".

  • Stefanie O. (Software Advice, May 2026): "strong data coverage and customizable reports."

What users dislike#

  • Maddie (Trustpilot, Jul 9, 2026): "we faced an issue with an auto-renewal."

  • customer (Trustpilot, Jul 28, 2025): "I've been trying to cancel an autorenewal scheduled for July since January".

  • BIeh (Trustpilot, Dec 30, 2025): "Lots of features, but each will cost you."

  • Holly Weaver (Trustpilot, Jan 31, 2026): sales calls "2 to 3 times per day".

  • Bernard (Trustpilot, Jul 1, 2025): features promised in the demo didn't work.

  • Quinlyn K. (Software Advice, Apr 2026): "Customization comes at the cost of complexity".

Two buyers in 2025 and 2026 describe the same auto-renewal problem, and I take them at their word. Some Trustpilot reviews are about scam letters using the Brandwatch name, so I left those out.

Read the reviews: Trustpilot, Software Advice.

Summary#

Last on my list for a Meltwater buyer, because it trades one quote-only contract for another.

  • Pick it if you run consumer research and value query tools over an exit you can read.

  • Skip it if you left Meltwater because of renewals.

FAQ#

Is there a free Meltwater alternative?#

CommunityTracker.ai has a free plan. For news and social monitoring, Awario Starter costs $29 a month billed annually, or $49 billed monthly (checked Oct 16, 2026).

Which Meltwater alternative covers news like Meltwater?#

Brand24, Mentionlytics and Awario cover online news on self-serve plans. Talkwalker and Brandwatch cover more, and both sell through a quote.

How do I cancel Meltwater?#

Read your contract's notice period first. Trustpilot reviewers describe 60-day and 3-month notice windows. Send the cancellation in writing before the window opens and keep the reply.

Do I lose Meltwater's journalist outreach if I switch?#

I compared these tools on monitoring, not outreach. If you send pitches from Meltwater, check that job separately before you give notice.

Can I run two tools during the switch?#

Yes. I'd start CommunityTracker's free plan or a monthly Brand24 plan 60 days before your Meltwater end date, so you have a month of data before you give notice.

My Verdict: Which Meltwater Alternative Should You Pick?#

I think the contract decides this more than the feature list does. Pick a tool you can leave, then add coverage.

  • If your buyers ask for tools on Reddit, LinkedIn or Hacker News, pick CommunityTracker.ai Pro at $99 a month.

  • If you need news and social in one feed on a monthly plan, pick Brand24.

  • If you're a PR team of 1 or 2 with a budget under $100, pick Mentionlytics Basic or Awario Starter, billed monthly.

  • If your brand lives in images and video, pick YouScan and read section 6 of its terms first.

  • If your Meltwater use was social publishing, pick Agorapulse on monthly billing, or Sprout if you need its reports and accept an annual contract.

  • If you need Meltwater's full coverage and accept a quote, pick Talkwalker, and negotiate the renewal terms before you sign.

Whatever you pick, put your notice date in your calendar the day you sign.
